Drop-off at the Official Trailhead (1,150 masl)

Logistics: The vehicle drops guests off at the starting point of the trail. Meet the porter team and begin walking.

Pos 1

Trailhead to Pos 1 (Pemantauan) — Altitude: 1,300 masl

  • Walking Time: ± 2 hours.
  • Weather & Climate: Very warm, sunny, and dry (25°C - 30°C). Flat, wide-open savanna fields with zero canopy shade.
  • Level: Very Low. Easy flat terrain. Risk of sunstroke or heat exhaustion if unprotected.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Maintain a slow, rhythmic "eco-pace." Do not rush. Sunglasses, wide hats, and SPF 50+ sunscreen are mandatory. Drink water regularly before feeling thirsty to combat the open tropical sun.
Pos 2 🍽️

Pos 1 to Pos 2 (Tengengean) — Altitude: 1,500 masl — 🍽️ LUNCH BREAK

  • Walking Time: ± 1 hour.
  • Weather & Climate: Warm but slightly shaded under sparse trees (24°C - 28°C). Dusty tracks with a gentle incline.
  • Level: Low. Gradual dirt incline.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Stop here for a long rest. Your porter team will set up a cooking station and serve a fresh, hot lunch. Advise guests to loosen their boot laces completely during lunch to restore healthy blood circulation to the toes. Perform basic hamstring and calf stretches to prevent muscle tightening.
Pos 3

Pos 2 to Pos 3 (Pada Balong) — Altitude: 1,800 masl

  • Walking Time: ± 1.5 hours.
  • Weather & Climate: Temperatures drop to a pleasant, breezy level (20°C - 24°C). The tree line disappears, and strong mountain winds can pick up dust.
  • Level: Low to Moderate. The terrain starts throwing short, steep dirt walls.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Keep the pace steady right after eating to avoid stomach cramps. Take a brief 5-10 minute snack break at Pos 3. Eat high-glycemic treats like chocolates or dates provided by your guide to spike glycogen reserves before the hardest climb of the day.
Camp 1 ⛺

Pos 3 to Sembalun Crater Rim (Plawangan Sembalun) — Altitude: 2,639 masl — ⛺ CAMP 1 Area

  • Walking Time: ± 3.5 hours.
  • Weather & Climate: Temperatures drop drastically. Late afternoon ranges from 10°C - 15°C, plunging to 5°C at night. Fog and heavy winds are common.
  • Level: Moderate. The trail tackles the infamous "Hills of Regret" (Bukit Penyesalan). Highly steep dirt tracks, gravel steps, and exposed mountain ridges. Slipping on loose dirt is possible.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Physical and mental fatigue peaks here. Teach guests the "Rest Step" technique—locking the back knee straight for a fraction of a second on every stride to transfer body weight to the skeletal structure, instantly resting the quad muscles. Upon reaching Camp 1, porters will have tents ready. Guests must instantly strip out of sweat-soaked clothing and wear warm thermals, beanies, fleece jackets, and gloves to avoid hypothermia. Early dinner and sleep by 08:00 PM max.
🌅 DAY 2: SUMMIT ATTACK & LAKE CALDERA

Crater Rim ➔ Rinjani Summit (3,726 masl) ➔ Return to Rim ➔ Danau Segara Anak (Camp 2)

Total Walking Time: ± 8 - 9 hours.
Altitude Shift: Climb from 2,639 masl to 3,726 masl (Summit), then descend to 2,009 masl (Lake).

📌 Timeline & Pos-to-Pos Breakdown:

01:30 AM

Wake-up Call & Pre-Climb Energy Boost

Activities: Guide wakes guests up. Serve hot tea/coffee and light biscuits/toast to kickstart metabolism. Warm layers check.

02:00 AM ⛰️

Summit Attack Launch (2,639 masl to 3,726 masl)

  • Walking Time: ± 3 to 4 hours of pure ascent.
  • Weather & Climate: Extreme Freezing Cold (0°C to 5°C). Intense wind chill factors can bring the perceived temperature down below freezing.
  • Level: High. The terrain is a narrow, heavily exposed ridge path with steep drops on both sides. The final 1 hour (The Letter E section) consists of deep, loose volcanic ash and gravel (scree) where you slide back one step for every two steps forward. High risk of slipping, ankle twisting, and altitude sickness (headaches/nausea).
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Trekking poles are mandatory to balance and distribute weight away from exhausted legs on the loose ash. Keep resting stops very short (1-2 minutes max); sitting down too long cools the core temperature, freezes muscles, and induces cramping. Focus on deep, rhythmic breathing: inhale via the nose, exhale fully via the mouth.
06:00 AM - 07:00 AM

Standing on the Peak of Lombok (3,726 masl)

Activities: Celebrate and capture sunrise views over Lombok, Sumbawa, and Mount Agung in Bali.

07:00 AM - 09:00 AM

Descent Back to Sembalun Crater Rim

  • Walking Time: ± 2 hours.
  • Weather & Climate: Warming up quickly (15°C - 20°C) as the sun rises over the crater walls.
  • Level: Moderate to High. Gravity works against tired joints. Slipping on loose volcanic gravel can cause deep cuts or abrasions.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Lean the torso slightly forward and keep the knees bent like springs to absorb shock. Never lock the knees straight on a descent to protect the meniscus.
09:00 AM - 10:30 AM

🍳 FULL BREAKFAST & PACKING BREAK

Logistics: Arrive back at Camp 1. Serve a freshly cooked deluxe breakfast. Guests rest, clean up, repack daypacks, and prepare to move down to the caldera floor.

Camp 2 ⛺

Descent to Segara Anak Lake — Altitude: 2,009 masl — ⛺ CAMP 2 Area

  • Walking Time: ± 3 hours.
  • Weather & Climate: Pleasantly cool and breezy (18°C - 22°C). Sunny with pockets of volcanic mist.
  • Level: High. The trail down the inner crater wall is very steep, rocky, and technical. It requires navigating vertical rocky paths, holding steel safety cables, and stepping down vertical iron ladders over deep ravines. Slipping on wet rock or dropping cameras/gear is a risk.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Keep hands completely free of loose items; store everything inside the daypack. Use safety wires firmly. Take slow, deliberate steps. Upon reaching the lake (2,009 masl), porters set up Camp 2. Enjoy lunch and head directly to the Natural Hot Springs (Aik Kalak). Soaking in the warm volcanic sulfur pools for 45 minutes dilates blood vessels, flushes out accumulated lactic acid, and naturally heals sore leg muscles after a massive summit day. Spend a peaceful night camping by the edge of the lake.
🥾 DAY 3: LAKE TO SENARU CRATER RIM

Danau Segara Anak ➔ Trekking up to Senaru Crater Rim (Camp 3)

Total Walking Time: ± 3 hours.
Altitude Shift: Climbing from 2,009 masl up to 2,641 masl.

📌 Timeline & Pos-to-Pos Breakdown:

08:00 AM

Breakfast by the Lakeside

Activities: A deeply relaxing morning by the lake. Guests can swim, explore the edge of the crater basin, or take iconic photos of Mount Baru Jari (the active baby volcano cone inside the lake).

11:30 AM

Early Lakeside Lunch

Logistics: Your porter team prepares a fresh lakeside lunch to fuel the upcoming vertical climb. Guests pack their daypacks.

12:30 PM | Camp 3 ⛺

Ascent from Segara Anak Lake to Senaru Crater Rim — Altitude: 2,641 masl — ⛺ CAMP 3 Area

  • Walking Time: ± 3 hours of steady, focused climbing.
  • Weather & Climate: Shifting from pleasantly cool to cold mountain levels (12°C - 16°C). Heavy evening mist and low-hanging clouds often envelop the rim, dropping temperatures to 6°C - 10°C by nightfall.
  • Level: High. The trail out of the lake basin to the western rim is highly steep, rocky, and technical. It involves climbing up continuous steep stone steps, maneuvering over large boulders, and navigating narrow paths with significant drops on the side. Rocks can be slippery if the afternoon mist is heavy.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: After a full night of rest and hot spring recovery on Day 2, guests will have renewed energy. Maintain a slow, continuous upward momentum. Short 1-minute standing breaks are better than long sitting breaks to prevent leg muscles from cooling down too fast. Use trekking poles for stabilization on the steep rocks. Upon reaching the Senaru Crater Rim (Camp 3), guests are treated to a legendary panoramic view: looking down at the entire lake from the opposite side, watching the sunset over Mount Agung in Bali, and seeing the ocean. Porters have tents ready. Hot dinner and sleep.
🎉 DAY 4: SENARU DESCENT & FINISH

Senaru Crater Rim ➔ Senaru Village Finish Gate ➔ Senaru Basecamp ➔ Next Destination

Total Walking Time: ± 5 - 6 hours (Pure descent).
Altitude Shift: Descending from 2,641 masl down to 601 masl (Senaru Gate).

📌 Timeline & Pos-to-Pos Breakdown:

06:30 AM

Sunrise Views & Breakfast on the Rim

Activities: Wake up to witness a spectacular sunrise over the entire Rinjani caldera. Enjoy a fresh hot breakfast and warm coffee/tea. Pack daypacks.

07:30 AM

Descent from Camp 3 to Pos 3 (Mondokan Lolon) — Altitude: 2,000 masl

  • Walking Time: ± 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Weather & Climate: Crisp and cool morning air (15°C - 18°C). The trail descends through high-altitude mountain pine fields.
  • Level: Moderate. The trail is heavily inclined, dusty, and gravelly. Slipping backward or rolling an ankle on loose rocks is the primary risk.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Keep trekking poles deployed to transfer the braking load away from exhausted knee joints and quads. Take short, controlled downhill strides.
Pos 2 🍽️

Pos 3 to Pos 2 (Montong Satas) — Altitude: 1,500 masl — 🍽️ LIGHT SNACK BREAK

  • Walking Time: ± 1.5 hours.
  • Weather & Climate: The trail enters a dense, lush tropical rainforest layer. The air becomes heavily shaded, deeply humid, and warm (22°C - 26°C).
  • Level: Moderate. The track transitions into damp jungle soil crossed by massive, smooth, and highly slippery tree roots.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Watch out for wet roots which can cause instant slips. Listen out for the unique calls of wild black orchids and the famous Lombok black monkeys (lutung) playing in the high jungle canopy.
Pos 2 to Gate

Pos 2 down to Senaru Village Registration Gate — Altitude: 601 masl

  • Walking Time: ± 2 hours.
  • Weather & Climate: Hot, humid, and tropical (26°C - 30°C). The path follows standard gradual jungle trails, flattening out completely as you approach the village borders.
  • Level: Low. Safe, well-maintained dirt paths. Trip risks only occur due to extreme fatigue or loss of focus.
  • LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE Stamina Tips: Keep sipping mineral fluids to compensate for high jungle sweating. Stay completely focused on the footpaths until the final step.
01:00 PM 🎉

Arrival at Senaru Village Gate (The Finish Line!) 🎉

Logistics: The gate marks the successful completion of the grand cross-trek. Your private LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE AC vehicle will meet guests here for a quick 5-minute drive to your main headquarters.

❓ COMMON QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

4D3N SEMBALUN-SENARU

The 4-day version is the safest and most rewarding way to experience the classic route. In the 3-day program, hikers must push for the summit, descend to the lake, and immediately climb a grueling 3 hours back up to the Senaru rim all on Day 2, causing immense physical breakdown. The 4-day itinerary allows them to rest by the lake, soak in the hot springs, and tackle the Senaru rim climb with fresh legs on Day 3.

Your clients leave their travel suitcases and non-hiking gear safely at your LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE basecamp in Senaru on Day 0. Because this classic route exits the mountain directly back into Senaru Village on Day 4, their bags will be waiting for them at your office right as they step off the trail.

The climb takes roughly 3 hours of steady uphill hiking. The trail is steep, rocky, and features large boulders. However, because it is broken into its own dedicated trekking day, clients can take it at a relaxed pace, enjoy the views, and arrive at Camp 3 in time to experience a magnificent sunset above the clouds.

On Night 1 (Sembalun Rim) and Night 3 (Senaru Rim), the campsites sit around 2,640 masl where temperatures are freezing, ranging between 5°C and 10°C (and near 0°C at the summit). On Night 2 by the lake basin (2,009 masl), the climate is much milder, hovering around 16°C to 20°C.

Signal availability fluctuates. Cellular data connection is generally stable and strong at the Sembalun Crater Rim, parts of the summit path, and the Senaru Crater Rim. However, inside the deep volcanic crater lake basin, there is virtually no mobile phone signal at all.

LOMBOK RINJANI GUIDE uses premium, double-layer dome tents built to withstand heavy mountain winds and rain. Inside their tents, your guests are provided with a clean, thick mattress, a warm sleeping bag rated for cold temperatures, and a camping pillow to ensure premium rest.

The hot springs contain natural sulfur, which is highly therapeutic and excellent for relaxing sore muscles and clearing lactic acid. However, if a client has open wounds, deep cuts, or specific acute skin allergies, they should consult a medical professional before soaking.

Mount Baru Jari is a small active volcano cone sitting inside the lake. While it is monitored closely by the vulcanology department and is completely safe to view from a distance, it does not constantly erupt. From the Senaru Crater Rim, your clients get a perfect, safe, birds-eye view of this unique geological marvel.

Your clients' safety is your absolute priority. Your licensed mountain guides monitor weather and wind conditions constantly. If a dangerous storm or extreme wind occurs on the ridge, the guide has full authority to delay or cancel the summit attack for safety reasons.

Tipping is not legally mandatory, but it is a well-established custom in the Indonesian trekking industry. Your guides and porters work incredibly hard carrying heavy loads, setting up tents, and cooking fresh meals. If your clients are happy with their dedicated service, a tip is highly appreciated by the local crew.
